This is where the queens and kits sleep. It's a den made of rock with an entrence hidden by tall grass, a great place for a nusery. Inside it is a bit dark, but sunlight is let in through tiny cracks in the rock. In leafbare, it stays warm inside. Come here to talk to the queens and kits or play with the kits.

Mystmoon collapsed into a warm, soft nest in the nursery, and a purr rose to her throat as she watched her kits. "I love you all," she murmured before falling asleep.

Crowflight nosed the kits closer to Mystmoon's belly then gave his sleeping mate a lick. He curled up next to Mystmoon and was about to drift off to sleep himself, when Jadestar came in. "Mystmoon's kitted already? When did this happen?" she asked, surprised. Crowflight lifted his head and looked at his mother. "Mystmoon and I were at Willow Island when it happened. All the kits are just fine, though," he replied. "Well, wonderful. I'll tell Goldenfrost to check them later though, just in case. Now you go ahead and rest with Mystmoon and your little ones," Jadestar meowed, then left the nursery. Crowflight sighed and soon fell alseep.

Crowflight woke up to the mew of a kit. He lifted his head and touched Mystmoon's nose with his and meowed, "Wake up, Mystmoon. We still haven't named the toms, remember?"

Mystmoon woke sleepily. "Oh, what?" she yawned. "You name them. I'm tired." She sighed. "I'm being inconsiderate and lazy," she said, shaking her head. "How about Fogkit for that smoky gray one?" Mystmoon sniffed the air. "Was Jadestar here?" she asked, gently licking Flytekit, who was meweling.

And yes, Jadestar was here earlier," Crowflight replied, "She was surprised you already had the kits and said she would send Goldenfrost to check up on them later." He looked at the little white tom. Just as he did, the kit streatched and blinked his little eyes open. One was ice blue and the other was dark amber. "Well look at that...hey, how about we name him Halfkit?" Crowflight meowed, then gave Halfkit a lick on the head. Halfkit just squeaked and blinked his eyes.

ReplyDeleteMystmoon purred, laughing. She gently licked her kit on the head, watching her son hobble around on his little legs and take in the world. Mystmoon leaned down to his ear, the one on the side of the blue eye, and purred gently. When he didn't respond, Mystmoon gently mewed. She looked up at Crowflight, worry in her eyes. "I think he's deaf, at least in this ear," she said worridly.

"Hmm..," Crowflight said. He leaned over and meowed into Halfkit's ear, "Can you hear me, Halfkit?" Halfkit turned to look at Crowflight and mewed, then licked him on the nose. Crowflight smiled and turned back to Mystmoon. "I'm pretty sure it's just the left ear. Don't worry Mystmoon, he'll still be a great warrior," he meowed.

Flytekit was floating in darkness. But she could hear sounds, and voices. Hearing had come on gradually, but vision was demanding. She opened her brilliant, firey, deep amber eyes and gasped. It was all so pretty! All the colors! Coupled with sounds, and her parents' and siblings' faces, it was amazing! She teetered forward on unsteady feet and promptly fell over. She tried again. This time, she was getting the hang of it. She found her brother playing alone. Not knowing any words yet, she mewed in a friendly way.

Halfkit turned and mewed in a friendly way back at his sister. Though his left ear was deaf, he could see very clearly. He wanted to speak to his sister, but wasn't sure how to make words. He tried his best to mew something that sounded like "Hi" instead of just making a meaningless sound. On his first try, it didn't work out so well, but he tried again. And again. He tried another time and was able to finally say hello to his sister. "Hi!" he meowed happily.

Fogkit sat near the entrance of the nursery. He slowly lifted his eyelids and stared blankly out the entrance. He vaguely wondered what color his eyes were, but he was s fascinated with being able to see that he didn't move from his spot.

Halfkit noticed Fogkit had opened his eyes and he walked over to him. "Hi!" he squeaked the only word he had figured out how to say. Halfkit thought a moment then tried his best to mew, "Come play?" It actually came out clearly, which surprised Halfkit a little. He smiled and pointed his tail toward where Flytekit still sat.

Halfkit frowned and started to walk away, but suddenly an idea popped into his head. Fogkit must play! he thought. He walked over to the left side of Fogkit and made sure he wasn't looking in his direction. Then, he ran up and pounced on top of Fogkit. Fogkit seemed to look more stunned than Halfkit had expected.

"Where did you come from?!" Fogkit yelped, extremely surprised. He then noticed that Halfkit was laying on him to his left and he couldn't see him. Am I not supposed to be able to see over there? Maybe all cats have a blind spot like that, he thought. He then realized that he didn't have a blind spot on his right side.

"No," Fogkit replied. He turned his head to the left to look up at his brother. "But now I can!" He exclaimed. Fogkit cocked his head quizzically at Halfkit. "Hey, one of your eyes is a different color than the other one. Are mine like that too? Is that why I half can't see? Can you see with that blue eye?" Fogkit quickly questioned.

ReplyDeleteHalfkit sighed. He was a bit tired too, but just walked to the nearest scap of moss and flopped down on it. He layed on his right side, and didn't noticed when the world suddenly went silent because he was covering the ear that he could hear with. Crowflight noticed him trying to sleep and decided to walk over and place him by his mother. Crowflight leaned over and smiled at Halfkit. Halfkit senced his father, opened his eyes and looked up. "Come on Halfkit, let's go sleep by Mama," Crowflight meowed. Suddenly, Halfkit was confused. He saw his father's mouth move, but heard nothing. "What..?" he asked. Crowflight repeated what he said, but Halfkit still heard nothing. Halfkit sat up and meowed worriedly, "Daddy, I can't hear you!" Crowflight frowned and mumbled, "Has he gone all deaf?" Halfkit heard that and was a bit releived, but still confused. "I can hear you now, but what do you mean? I'm not at all deaf...right?" he mewed. Crowflight shook his head and said, "No, Halfkit. You are deaf in your left ear. I think you couldn't hear me when you were laying down because you were covering your good ear." Halfkit thought a moment. "That's kind of odd...I guess Fogkit and I are alike," he meowed. Now Crowflight was confused. "What do you mean? Is Fogkit deaf, too?" Crowflight asked. Halfkit shook his head and meowed, "No, Fogkit isn't deaf. He is blind in his left eye, though. If you look at it, it looks all foggy." Crowflight gasped. What? I have a half deaf son and a half blind son? Crowflight looked at Halfkit and said, "How about you go rest with your brother by Mama, ok?" Halfkit nodded and walked over to Mystmoon, curled up next to Fogkit, and fell alseep.
Crowflight sighed and walked over to Mystmoon. He nudged her and whispered, "I need to tell you something. It's about the kits."

Flytekit was confused. First Halfkit was talking to her and then Fogkit...they were half deaf and half blind. Flytekit shook her head. The world was all so confusing. She could only be grateful that everything was intact. She ccurled up beside her brothers, falling asleep, unaware of her destiny that would drive her and her family apart...

ReplyDeleteMystmoon was numb. She took a deep breath to settle herself. "They could be a team," she whispered. "Fogkit is Halfkit's ear, and Halfkit is Fogkit's eye." Mystmoon shot a glance at Flytekit. "Nothing's wrong with her," she told Crowflight. "I'm sure she'll be fine."

Just then, Flytekit awoke. She turned to see a small ginger she-kitten staring at her. She padded over to her. "Hi, I'm Flytekit," she mewed, yawning.

Ok, so...the kits decide to go out on an adventure into the forest and they see the river. Moonkit falls in, and Halfkit(who is very brave and doesn't really think things through before he does them, lol) jumps in to save her. He tried his best to get to her and pull her out, and then they get to Willow Island. Halfkit pulls Moonkit out of the water, but she is already almost dead, because she was drowning. Halfkit is very tired and collapses, not know she's dead yet. By the time warriors(Probably Crowflight and Mystmoon), Moonkit is dead. they think Halfkit's dead (just for fun), but he's just extremely tired and will be fine.

Halfkit yawned and got up. "Hi Mama, Hi Daddy," he meowed to Mystmoon and Crowflight. He saw Heatherkit and Flytekit and walked over. "Hi, Flytekit," he mewed, then turned to Heatherkkit. "Hi there, I'm Halfkit. Who are you?"

Moonkit shivered, and awoke. Noticing Halfkit, Flytekit, and Heatherkit in a huddle, she padded over. "What's up?" she asked. "We're sneaking out of camp," Flytekit declared. Moonkit smiled. "I'm in," she said.

Mystmoon nodded. "You're right. They'll be fine, I'm sure." Mystmoon noticed her kits and another in a huddle, and she purred. "Look. They're all making friends."

Halfkit nodded and walked over to Mystmoon. He shook Fogkit awake and meowed, "C'mon Fogkit! Follow me!" Crowflight looked at Halfkit and meowed, "And where are you going?" Halfkit gulped. Think fast, Halfkit! he thought. "Outside to play in the clearing, it's too stufy in here. The other ktis are coming, too," he meowed quickly. Crowflight replied, "Ok, but stay out of trouble." Halfkit nodded and dragged Fogkit to his paws, then they scampered out of the den. Once they were out the door, Halfkit meowed to Fogkit, "We're not actually going to play. We're going to the forest, it will be fun, won't it?"

Crowlflight walked into the nursery with his kits behind him. He was carrying Moonkit's body in his mouth, but set her down to speak. "Stay right here kits. I'll be back," he meowed. Croflight picked Moonkit back up and left to the den to tell Jadestar about the kit's death.

Flytekit curled up beside Halfkit, glad for her sibling's living warmth. Seeing a dead cat had creeped her out beyond measure. She opened her eyes. "I'm sorry," she mewed to Heatherkit. "It's all my fault that Moonkit died, because it was all my idea."
