Jadestar yowled and let it echo through camp. "The battle is over, EchoClan has won! Sharpstar, take your clan and leave before I take the rest of your lives," she said. The dark brown tabby got up and flicked is tail, still bleeding on the tip, for his clan to follow. The ThistleClan cats left, defeated. EchoClan let out a call of vicotry, but it turned into a yowl of sadness. Cats lay dead or ingured in the clearing. Jadestar spotted Berrygaze and Brooklight..then Sparrowclaw. She rushed to her deputy. He was still breathing, not dead. "Sparrowclaw?" Jadestar meowed to him, nudging him. Sparrowclaw gently lifted him head. "Jadestar...find a new deputy. My days of fighting are over..," he meowed. "You're not going to die, are you?" she asked him. "No..but I will join Larkfeather in the elder's den," Sparrowclaw said, then rested his head back on the ground. Jadestar glanced at her clan, filled with sadness. A light snow began to fall. EchoClan was ingured and leafbare had come.
Jadestar took her place on the EchoRock. "Larkfeather and Stormsky, please get Berrygaze and Brooklight ready for us to honor them, then they will be buried at dawn. Firestalker, Rosemist, and Thunderstorm, please start cleaning camp. Goldenfrost, Honeycloud, and Lilypool, please treat everyone's wounds. I will go last, please. But treat Sparrowclaw first so he may get settled in the elder's den," she called. The clan looked shocked that their deputy was retiring. "I also wish to make two brave apprentices into warriors, but I must wait until they are well enough," Jadestar mewoed, glacing at the medicine cat den where Mystpaw lay and Crowpaw crouched by her side. "Also, I have already chosen my next deputy. But, the warrior cerimony must be held first, she called out, "Meeting dissmissed." She leapt down from the EchoRock, tired. Greyfoot was at her side and he gently led her into the leader's den where their kits waited.

Raintail bowed his head, shivering as the snow fell. This was very bad. He didn't know if the medicine cats had enough herbs to treat the injured, and if they didn't, sickness might break out. Raintail closed his eyes. It was all so crazy and wrong. He padded over to his sister Berrygaze's body and pressed his nose into her cold, snowy fur, hoping that she was happy and her mind fully restored in Starclan. He glanced over at Mystpaw. She was smiling and mewing something to Crowpaw.

Mystpaw smiled and nudged Crowpaw. "Did you hear that?" she whispered in a scratchy voice. "Jadestar's going to make us warriors as soon as we're all healed. Isn't that great?" Mystpaw smiled, and a weak purr escaped her throat.

Crowpaw nodded. "I heard, and that's wonderful," he meowed and licked her head. He usually didn't show such an afectionate side to anyone, be this was different. He loved Mystpaw. "Jadestar said that the warrior cerimony must happen before she choses a deputy, do you think that meen the next deputy will be one of our mentors? Desertslash or Scartail?" Crowpaw asked curiously.

ReplyDeleteRaintail smiled at Fallenheart. He noticed how pretty she was. He looked away, the smile fading. "Yeah, she was nice, but she was also kind of insane," he mewed. "Her kits died in a terrible accident. She also had a really tough kithood." Raintail sighed. "Mystpaw and I needed to look after her, but...we failed, letting her get killed like this." Raintail hung his head, feeling terrible.

"I don't know," Mystpaw said. She gritted her teeth, and sat up. A small cry escaped her jaws, but she quickly stifled it. "Just minor bruising," Mystpaw said through gritted teeth. She tried to hobble out of the den. "I need to see Berrygaze," she insisted. "She's my sister." And then quieter. "We failed her."

Stormsky dipped her head, her eyes dark with sorrow at the loss of her mother's sister, the only kin she had besides Talonstrike. She caught Larkfeather's gaze as she padded towards Berrygaze and Brooklight.
ReplyDeleteDarkflame suddenly towered over Mystpaw and Crowpaw. "How are you two doing?" He meowed, voice gruff. "Mystpaw, I trust you are recovering well." He looked down at Crowpaw, his voice quieting. "Take care of her," he whispered. "She needs you."
Mystpaw dipped her head at the formiddable warrior. "I think I just have major bruising around here." She gestured around her waist and chest. "It'll heal soon, but for now I find it really hard to walk." Mystpaw shivered and sat down, and then winced with pain.

"That's so sad..," Fallenheart meowed, gazing down at Berrygaze's body. "But, I just know she will go to StarClan," she said then looked back up at Raintail, "and life will go on for us here in EchoClan."

Jadestar walked over to Crowpaw and Mystpaw. She noticed that Mystpaw was still mourning for her sister Berrygaze while Crowpaw sat by her. "Will you two be ready for your cerimony soon? Don't worry, I will try not to rush you, but your cerimony must be before I chose the deputy. And the deputy must be chosen before moonhigh," she told him, glancing at the setting sun. Crowpaw look at his leader and replied, "I'm ready as soon as Mystpaw is."

Darkflame rested his tail tip on Mystpaw for a moment, then padded to Jadestar who was close by. "Jadestar, would you like me to organize a hunting patrol? I can help with the repairs of the camp," he offered, gesturing at the bloodstained camp, which was trampled by the many battling cats. Some walls of the den were dented, and part of the elder's den had caved in, and so had part of the nursery. However, it was the medicine cat's den that had the most damage.
ReplyDeleteMystpaw nodded. "Yes, Jadestar. I-I'm ready." Mystpaw's eyes filled with fresh tears, and she had to hold back a sob. "Berrygaze...she would have known...she would've been so happy," Mystpaw whispered. She sat, sobbing silently, her shoulders shaking. Mystpaw froze for a moment, and then she opened her eyes. "Yes, Jadestar. I'm ready."

Raintail nodded, and smiled, partly because his sister was happy in Starclan, and that Fallenheart was right there. "She's happy. She's whole again." Raintail glanced over at Fallenheart. "Yeah. Life will go on in Echoclan. It's the way of the world." He looked over at Mystpaw. He could see that she was sad, even though having told Jadestar that she was ready for her apprentice ceremony. Raintail padded over to his sister. "It's okay," he murmured, letting her lean into him. "It's fine. She's happy. And today's your ceremony. Don't let Berrygaze's death spoil it for you. She wouldn't have wandted that." Mystpaw sniffed. "I guess." She looked at Raintail. "You're a good brother," she whispered before padding after Jadestar and Crowpaw, a watery smile on her face that was growing and becoming more solid by the second. Raintail smiled. Seeing his sister happy made him happy.
