Jadestar slowly got to the top of the EchoRock and called the clan together. "Sadly, there has been a death in EchoClan. Moonkit has died and gone to StarClan earlier than anyone had expected. Let us morn for the young kit tonight. Crookedback and Sparkpaw will bury her in the morning," she meowed. Jadestar leapt down from the rock and walked up to the small black kit who layed in the middle of the clearing. She pressed her nose to the she-kit's fur.

Mystmoon gently pushed her nose into her daughter's cold, soft fur. Why, Starclan, why? she thought as a tear slid down her cheek.

ReplyDeleteHalfkit pressed his nose to Moonkit's fur. "Goodbye, Moonkit," he mewed. He was so sure he heard her voice meow a reply. "Bye, Halfkit. Thats for trying to save me, you did your best," Moonkit whispered. He looked up, confused. He layed down next to Moonkit and murmured, "Did...I just hear you?" Halfkit waited for a reply. "Yes, but I have to go now. StarClan's waiting for me," Moonkit mewed. Halfkit was still confused how he had heard his sister. But, he was just happy to hear her voice again. He smiled and tears came to his eyes as he layed his head on Moonkit's shoulder.

Stormsky bowed her head in sorrow for the lost kit, and Talonstrike did the same. Darkflame went over to Mystmoon and lay his tail on her shoulder. "I am sorry for your loss," he mewed sadly but formally. "Moonkit will now watch over us in StarClan." Stormsky sighed, looking up to the sky. Was the kit up there, mourning with her clanmates?
ReplyDeleteFogkit touched his nose to Moonkit's cold fur, giving a silent goodbye. As he stood up and looked on, he saw a starry image of his lost sister walking away in the direction of the pale moon hanging in the sky. She turned and seemed to mew something, but Fogkit heard nothing except the gentle noises of the night. I must be seeing things he thought. Fogkit blinked and the ghostly image of Moonkit was gone.

Moonkit felt light and strong, and wise. She saw her siblings there on Earth and laughed. They had no need to grieve! She was happy now. Moonkit sighed. With death came knowledge. Her siblings had something great in store for them, something that would shake the Clan to the core. Moonkit looked over her shoulder, her eyes wide. "Good luck," she mewed. She wasn't sure if anyone heard her. Moonkit shook her pelt and turned. A she-cat was waiting. "Who are you?" she mewed. The she-cat smiled kindly. "I am Berrygaze, your mother's sister," she mewed. "I died in battle before you were born." Berrygaze swept her long, fluffy tail around Moonkit. "Come on," she said kindly. "Let's go home."

Flytekit touched her nose to her sister's icy fur, closed her eyes, and could just see Moonkit with stars in her fur, looking wise beyond her years. She shook her pelt and turned, curling up beside Halfkit for warmth.
